PUT YOUR CAR KEYS BESIDE YOUR BED AT NIGHT

Tell your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your parents your
Dr's office, the check-out girl at the market, everyone you run
across.

Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise
outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just
press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and
the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the
car battery dies.

This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you
come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think
of this:

It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and
requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most
everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your
battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key
fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage If your
car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house,
odds are the burglar rapist won't stick around... After a few
seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see
who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. And
remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking
lot. The alarm can work the same way there ..... This is something
that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a
life or a sexual abuse crime.
>
P.S. I am sending this to everyone I know because I think it is
fantastic. Would also be useful for any emergency, such as a heart
attack, where you can't reach a phone. My Mom has suggested to my
> Dad that he carry his car keys with him in case he falls outside
> and she doesn't hear him. He can activate the car alarm and then
> she'll know there's a problem.
>

> Please pass this on even IF you've read it before. It's a
reminder.

Random thoughts

My Internet is SLOW today! It's taking a long time for pages to load.

My cats - gosh, I love them, but they are so messy. I am tired of the hair everywhere. And Sam has a breathing problem.

Lauren dyed Hershey's Mohawk today - it looks funny!

Kids are expensive. Let me repeat that. Kids are expensive.

Gustav’s Guide to Hurricane Survival Lessons Learned During and After the Storm

Gustav’s Guide to Hurricane Survival
Lessons Learned During and After the Storm

The hurricane grouch quotient can be calculated by adding the number of children and pets in a home without power, multiplied by the number of days quoted on the Entergy telephone recording, divided by the number of fans or portable air conditioners powered by your home generator, (however if you were last in line at Home Depot and have no generator then multiply by the daily high for that day reported by either Pat Shingleton or Jay Grymes), then add the number of trips to the washateria and the days left until school opens. Discount by the percentage of time spent at neighbors who have power. Recalculate as often as necessary

No matter how many times you flick the switch, lights don't work without electricity.

Vienna sausages only appear on the food pyramid during hurricane season.

Gas mileage is recalculated based on miles per fume.

Lovebugs do not disappear in 80mph wind gusts.

Disasters can cancel one LSU football game but there will be even bigger casualties if we cancel two.

Despite protests, kids can re-live their parents’ youth when there were only 3 tv channels!

Cats are even more irritating without power.

Baton Rouge without traffic lights resembles Mexico City, Rome, Los Angeles and New York Cityall rolled into a single snarl.

A 7 lb bag of ice will chill 6-12 oz beers to a drinkable temperature in 11 minutes, and still keep a 14 lb. turkey frozen for 8 more hours.

There are/were a lot of really big trees around here!

Just because you're 18 doesn't mean you can stay out as late as you want. Mayor Holden meant business when he said curfew.

People will get into a line that has already formed without having any idea what the line is for.

Calories consumed during a hurricane or power outage do not count.

Telemarketers function no matter what the weather is doing. New Delhidoes not check the weather report in Baton Rouge.

Most popular text message after September 1: do u hve pwr

Twenty-seven of your neighbors are fed from a different transformer than you, and they are quick to point that out!

Crickets and cicadas can increase their volume to overcome the sound of 14 generators.

Dirty clothes in an unsupervised hamper multiply at an exponential rate.

Coffee, spaghetti and frozen pizzas can be made on a grill.

He who has the biggest generator wins.

Tree service companies are under-appreciated, except after hurricanes.

There are a lot more stars in the sky than most people thought.

If you owned a store that sold only ice, chain saws, gas and generators, you would be rich

And so to our friends and families, some who are still without power and others who have endured great personal loss, you are in our prayers. Hang in there, we are making progress. Thank you to all our first responders, healthcare professionals, service technicians, teachers, police officers, small business owners, and more who join with the thousands of individuals sharing their time and talent to help restore our community to wholeness.

The most important lesson of all learned from Gustav in the last week is that the human spirit has an amazing resilience that even a hurricane cannot bend. Through God’s love and amazing grace we can endure all things.

Everyday Needs

I wish I had someone to cook dinner for me every night. And then they could do the dishes afterwards. While it's cooking they could wash and fold some laundry. Yeah. That'd be nice.

Mowing Grass

I hope the picture will go through for you - of this Army soldier in Iraq with his tiny 'plot' of grass in front of his tent. It's heartwarming! Here is a soldier stationed in Iraq , stationed in a big sand box. He asked his wife to send him dirt ( U.S. soil), fertilizer, and some grass seed so that he can have the sweet aroma, and feel the grass grow beneath his feet When the men of the squadron have a mission that they are going on, they take turns walking through the grass and the American soil -- to bring them good luck.

If you notice, he is even cutting the grass with a pair of a scissors. Sometimes we are in such a hurry that we don't stop and think about the little things that we take for granted.

Upon receiving this, say a little prayer for our soldiers that give and give (and give up) so unselfishly for us.

You don't have to send this on, but gosh, who wouldn't?

Back to work

Well, I'm back at work. It was good being back and getting caught up on everything yesterday. I have to prepare for my workshop on Monday that I'm presenting. I'll work on that today. I woke up early this morning and couldn't get back to sleep. Too much on my mind, I guess. Getting together with some friends later in the week, so I'm looking forward to that. Have to go to Baton Rouge this weekend to get school clothes for Lauren and Landon.

Mama's Bible

MAMA'S BIBLE

Four brothers left home for college, and they became successful doctors
and lawyers and prospered.

Some years later, they chatted after having dinner together. They
discussed the gifts they were able to give their elderly mother Who
lived far away in another city.

The first said, "I had a big house built for Mama."

The second said, "I had a hundred thousand dollar theater built in the
house."

The third said, "I had my Mercedes dealer deliver an SL600 to her."

The fourth said, "You know how Mamma loved reading the Bible and you
know she can't read anymore because she can't see very well. I met this
preacher who told me about a parrot that can recite the entire Bible.

It took twenty preachers 12 years to teach him. I had to pledge to
contribute $100,000 a year for twenty years to the church, but it was
worth it. Mamma just has to name the chapter and verse and the parrot
will recite it."

The other brothers were impressed.

After the holidays Mom sent out her Thank You notes.

She wrote:

"Milton, the house you built is so huge I live in only one room, but I
have to clean the whole house. Thanks anyway."

"Marvin, I am too old to travel. I stay home; I have my groceries
delivered, so I never use the Mercedes. The thought was good.
Thanks."

"Michael, you gave me an expensive theater with Dolby sound, it could
hold 50 people, but all of my friends are dead, I've lost my hearing and
I'm nearly blind. I'll never use it. Thank you for the gesture just the
same."

"Dearest Melvin, you were the only son to have the good sense to give a
little thought to your gift. The chicken was delicious. Thank you."

Luv Ya,
MAMA

Thought this was amusing...

Short editorial from Hays, KS . You gotta love these small town editors. Don't miss the last line. Its not to be found in the Newsweek, Time Magazine, NYT , LA Times, or Washington Post.
Spent the whole day so far working on the Ponchatoula High School Band website. Hubby's telling me what all we need to get for the car to get it going. I told him he needs to get a second job. I work two jobs, he should work two jobs too. Of course, he had one job with decent pay I wouldn't need to work a second job at all.

Money

I'm depressed today. There are so many things my family needs and can't afford. The main reason we can't afford things is because my husband won't get a decent paying job. Expenses have gone up so much and we can't keep up. I'm sick of it.

A Song I Wrote

He was 18 and held his hard earned diploma in his hand
He was expected to know which road to take across this great big land
“I’m not sure what to do or where I should go.” His momma heard him say.
“Well, son, the best thing you can do, is go to the Lord and pray.”

When life is crazy and you don’t know what to do
Turn to Jesus,
He will carry you.
There’s no need for you to struggle on your own
Turn to Jesus
He will lead you home.

He was 24 when he heard them say, “There’s nothing we can do.”
And they buried the baby the very next day. How can life be so cruel?
He knew he had to be strong for his wife, but his own pain made him cry.
Then finally one day he could look toward heaven and no longer question why.

When life is crazy and you don’t know what to do
Turn to Jesus
He will carry you.
There’s no need for you to struggle on your own
Turn to Jesus
He will lead you home.

He was 45 and felt the weight of the world upon his shoulders.
He was full of despair as he cried out, “I just want life to be over.”
Then images of his children flashed across his mind.
He fell to his knees and prayed to Jesus, “Lord help me through this time.”

When life is crazy and you don’t know what to do
Turn to Jesus
He will carry you.
There’s no need for you to struggle on your own
Turn to Jesus
He will lead you home.

Bridge
The Lord with get you through this life, with all its ups and down
Remember to go to him in prayer – he’ll always be around!

When life is crazy and you don’t know what to do
Turn to Jesus
He will carry you.
There’s no need for you to struggle on your own
Turn to Jesus
He will lead you home.

It's good to be home!

After two weeks being gone, it's great to be home. I miss the great meals, though. It stinks having to cook again. I slept till a little after 9 this morning. Didn't do much in the way of housework. Took Logan to the doctor to get established with my family doc - he decided he was done with the pediatrician! Then we went to see Wall-e. It was really cute!

Tide

Dear Tide:
Picture (Device Independent Bitmap)
I am writing to say what an excellent product you have! I've used it all of my married life, as my Mom always told me it was the best. Now that I am in my fifties I find it even better! In fact, about a month ago, I spilled some red wine on my new white blouse. My inconsiderate and uncaring husband started to belittle me about how clumsy I was, and generally started becoming a pain in the neck. One thing led to another and somehow I ended up with his blood on my new white blouse! I grabbed my bottle of Tide with bleach alternative, to my sur prise and satisfaction, all of the stains came out! In fact, the stains came out so well the detectives who came by yesterday told me that the DNA tests on my blouse were negative and then my attorney called and said that I was no longer considered a suspect in the disappearance of my husband.

What a relief! Going through menopause is bad enough without being a murder suspect! I thank you, once again, for having a great product.

Well, gotta go, have to write to the Hefty bag people.

Play Time

Isn't it funny how I work on a computer all day long at work, and yet it's the first thing I do in the morning (check email and message boards) and the first thing I do when I get home! Good thing most of the sites I like are blocked at work, or I would be really distracted. Nothing bad mind you, just stuff like this. Of course, a professor once told me that a blog was supposed to be informational, unlike a journal. Well, I suppose since this is my blog that it's gonna just be about me and what I think about things.

Bank time

I have to get to the bank first thing this morning to deposit the yard sale money. Thank goodness CJ gets paid Friday or we'd never make it to the end of the month!
